A brief overview of the Hawaiian island of Maui and its vacation appeal.

Maui is one of six major islands that make up the State of Hawaii. Nicknamed by locals as, “The Magic Isle,” as well as, “The Valley Isle.” The island is most famous for its championship golf courses, breathtaking scenery, serene towns, and world class resort accommodations. With several sightseeing tours, such as The Road to Hanna and Haleakala available, a visit to Maui is more than just an opportunity to relax on the beach.

Maui Weather

Maui, Hawaii has a tropical climate with a year round temperature average in the range of seventy-five to eighty-five degrees. Due to its geographic location, Hawaii experiences trade winds on a regular basis. These trade winds help alleviate the humidity typically associated with tropical and sub-tropical climates, while naturally adding to the air of relaxation that island life provides.

While the general climatic environment is relatively stable, Maui is known for its topographical diversity. The island is home to both high-altitude mountainous terrain as well as interior lowlands. Haleakala, Maui’s famous dormant volcano has seven various climate zones due to its rapid increase in altitude. Once above 3,000 feet, Maui’s temperatures noticeably drop and the air becomes drier than that at sea level. Most of the island’s rain storms occur on its north side due to the active trade winds.

Lahaina, Maui

Lahaina is a historic town on Maui’s west side that was the original capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The town was also once a whaling village during the industry’s peak in the mid-1800’s. Today Lahaina features the Old Lahaina Luau and whale watching tours during the winter season. In addition Lahaina features a historic trail district and the Ulalena at Maui Theatre.

Maui Activities

In addition to relaxing by the sounds of the sea underneath a swaying set of palm trees, or working on a tan at the beach, the island of Maui offers a wide variety of activities and economical sightseeing tours. For the adventurous those activities could include a helicopter tour or an afternoon of parasailing. Individuals and/or families can enjoy the Maui Zipline, the Sugar Cane Train, the Maui Ocean Center or an afternoon of snorkeling off the coast of Molokai. Regardless of the activity choice, the Magic Isle truly offers some of the world’s most beautiful and breathtaking scenery throughout the day and night.

A visit to Maui can be a magical experience for those who enjoy the serenity and variety that nature has to offer. A prime tourist destination, this Hawaiian island still offers an air of secluded calm and relaxation, making it an almost perfect escape. From the comforting air of the trade winds to the crystal deep blue oceans and bright, lush landscapes, Maui, Hawaii can literally feel like paradise. Living up to its namesake, Maui is one of the world’s destinations that leave a vacationer with the desire to return and enjoy its magic more than just once.
